GLOUCESTER, Mass. – Twenty-four Bemidji State University men’s and women’s hockey players have been selected by the American Hockey Coaches Association to the Division I Krampade All-American Scholars list for 2017-18. With eight men and 16 women selected for the honor, Bemidji State teams combined for a Western Collegiate Hockey Association-best 24 student-athletes recognized.
"We are extremely proud of this group of student-athletes who have competed at the highest level of the game on the ice and matched that performance in the classroom," said AHCA executive director Joe Bertagna. "The sport demands a great deal from these athletes so it is a great statement they make, individually and collectively, with their ability to attain this level of academic achievement."
To earn recognition as a Krampade All-American Scholar, a varsity hockey player must have attained a 3.6 GPA each semester and participated in 40% of his/her school's games.
In the second year of the award, 488 Division I men and women are being honored. Within the WCHA, the AHCA and Krampade selected a total of 108 student-athletes representing all 17 WCHA programs. The Bemidji State women not only led the league, but also led the nation with 16 of their 26 student-athletes eligible to receive the 2017-18 award.
