UND steals overtime victory from Bemidji State, 2-1

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Ralph Engelstad Arena) -- The Bemidji State University men's hockey team took the first lead over the University of North Dakota and held it into the final six minutes of the series opener Friday, but a late goal to push overtime and a Westin Michaud tally just 52 second into overtime tilted the game in the Fighting Hawks' favor, 2-1.

After a scoreless first period, the Beavers lit the scoreboard 4:58 into the second period and just 25 seconds into the Beavers' second power-play opportunity of the contest. Adam Brady started the scoring play with a pass to Tyler Vold on the point. The junior defender unleashed a slap shot and was redirected in front by Sillinger for the sophomore forward's second goal of the young season.

The Beavers would snuff out a pair of Fighting Hawks' power-play opportunities during the remaining time of the second period and were outshot 15-6 in the frame but took a 1-0 lead into the locker rooms after 40 minutes of play.

North Dakota pushed back in the third. The hosts outshot BSU 21-8 in the period and Jordan Kawaguchi converted one of those into a goal to even the score at the 14:13 mark of the frame.

Zach Driscoll made 25 saves and allowed two goals in the loss. His record dips to 0-1-1 on the season.

Bemidji State, now 0-1-2 on the season will seek its first victory of 2019-20 and to even the non-conference series tomorrow at 7:07 p.m. when the teams again hit the ice at Ralph Engelstad Arena for the series finale.
