INDIANAPOLIS – Bemidji State University forward Owen Sillinger has been selected as the NCAA Men’s Hockey Third Star of the Week after leading the Beavers to a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series sweep of Ferris State University, Jan. 3-4.

Sillinger recorded a team-high five points in the series. The sophomore recorded the first multi-assist game of his 58-game BSU career Friday assisting on three of the Beavers’ five goals, including the game-winner and a short-handed goal to put the game out of reach. Saturday, he added a goal and an assist in the Beavers’ 4-1 victory to seal the sweep. He helped get the Beavers on the board on a Tommy Muck power-play goal in the first period and scored his seventh goal of the season late.

He finished the weekend as the WCHA’s leading scorer, tied for the nation’s top-scoring honors and tied teammate Elias Rosén with four assists to lead the nation. He posted a team-high +5 plus/minus rating and was the team’s top face-off man winning 34 of 55 attempts (.636).

The Regina, Saskatchewan native’s is third on the Bemidji State roster with 15 points (7g-8a).

This marks the first time Sillinger has been honored with the NCAA award and is the first time a BSU player has been recognized with the NCAA’s weekly award since Justin Baudry was selected for the honor Feb. 12, 2019.

In addition to Sillinger, University of Notre Dame goaltender Cale Morris was named first star and Boston College forward Ron Greco second star recognition.

The Beavers, now 10-7-3 overall and 10-3-1-0 in league play, hit the road for a two-game set at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. The WCHA series will get underway at 7:37 p.m. Thursday, while the series finale is set for 7:37 p.m. Friday. Both games will take place at the VonBraun Center in Huntsville, Ala.
