BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Bemidji State University junior Zach Driscoll has been selected as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week for his role in the Beavers’ series sweep of Bowling Green, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
Driscoll Driscoll turned aside 56 of the 59 shots he faced, helping BSU to its fifth WCHA series sweep of the season. Following a 29-save performances in Friday’s 4-1 victory over Bowling Green, Driscoll made 27 saves Saturday to extend the Beavers’ winning streak to three games and give BSU its 10th home victory of the season. In addition, he backstopped a penalty-kill unit that held BGSU to 1-for-5 on the man advantage in the series. He finished the weekend 2-0-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .949 save percentage to lead the league in GAA and rank second in save percentage.
Driscoll is 15-6-3 on the season. His 1.62 goals against average is eighth in the country, while his .941 save percentage ranks sixth.
This is Driscoll’s fifth career WCHA Goaltender of the Week nod, which includes the award given out Jan. 20, 2020.
In addition to Driscoll, Northern Michigan University’s Darien Craighead was selected as the league’ Forward of the Week, Connor Mackey of Minnesota State University earned the Defensive Player of the Week nod University of Alabama-Huntsville’s Liam Izyk was named WCHA Rookie of the Week.
Bemidji State, now 16-8-4 overall and 16-4-2-1 in WCHA play, will break from play next weekend to prepare for the final three weeks of the season, the right to host the WCHA playoffs and a run at the regular-season title. The Beavers return to action Feb. 14-15 when it travels to Marquette, Mich. for a two-game series with Northern Michigan University.
