Galen Nagle Memorial golf outing set for July 17; Registration open now

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University hockey greats, alumni, friends and fans of the BSU men’s ice hockey program will gather at the Bemidji Town and Country Club Friday, July 17 to participate in the Galen Nagle Memorial Golf Tournament.

Registration for the 23rd-annual event is now open at: . The fee per participant is $150 and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, meal and tee gift.

All proceeds from the Texas scramble golf tournament and auction will directly benefit the BSU’s men’s hockey program and the endowment fund set up in honor of Galen Nagle, was a goaltender for the Beavers from 1980-84 and member of the historic 1984 national championship team at BSU, who went on to serve as a coach and teacher in Minnesota for several years before losing his life to cancer Oct. 18, 1994 at the age of 34.

The tournament got its start in 1998 in an effort to build the Galen Nagle Endowment Fund, which was established to benefit BSU men’s hockey in 1997.

“Galen exemplified Beaver hockey,” said former BSU men’s hockey coach and athletic director R.H. “Bob” Peters. “Hard work, dedication and loyalty were inherent to his character, and through his efforts, he became a vital part of our team.”

Nagle, a native of Baudette, Minn., graduated from BSU in 1984 and was a 1980 graduate of Bemidji High School.

The COVID-19 crisis has cancelled or modified many public events over the course of the last three months and the Galen Nagle Memorial Golf Tournament is no exception. In an effort to protect the health of BSU and Bemidji Town and Country Club staff as well as participants, there will be no onsite registration, only online registration at the link above will be accepted. Typically a shotgun start, tee-times will be assigned to teams (between 7:30-9 a.m. or 12:30-2:30 p.m.) in 2020 to avoid large congregations of participants. Silent auction items will be posted at online beginning July 10 and will be open for all to bid, whether they can attend the 2020 event or not. Finally, while the registration fee includes a post-round meal, there will be no formal program or dinner.
