The Beavers, now 15-9-3 overall and ranked No. 15 in the USAToday/USA Hockey Magazine national poll, have earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament East Regional. The Beavers, the region's No. 4 seed, draw the No. 1 seed University of Wisconsin (20-9-1) in the first semifinal. BSU and Wisconsin have met on seven previous occasions with the Badgers holding a 6-0-1 edge in the series.

Bemidji State and UW have met on one other occasion in NCAA Tournament play. The teams were both seeded in the 2006 Midwest Regional where the Badgers defeated BSU 4-0 en route to their six national title.

The semifinal matchup will get underway from Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn. at 12 p.m. (CDT) Friday and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2. The winner will face the winner of the second semifinal between University of Massachusetts and Lake Superior State University in the regional championship at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Nestled in Northern Minnesota’s wooden region and located on the shore of Lake Bemidji, BSU sponsors 15 varsity athletic programs with NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey membership in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, while its 13 NCAA Division II programs hold membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
