DEEPHAVEN, Minn. – After holding Lake Superior State University to just two goals this past weekend, Bemidji State University men’s hockey freshman goaltender Mattias Sholl was named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week.
Sholl earned two wins in the crease and stopped 49-of-51 shots over the weekend to earn his second career CCHA weekly accolade after being named the CCHA Goaltender of the Week on Oct. 5.
The freshman from Hermosa Beach, Calif., began the weekend by stopping 28-of-29 shots in Friday’s 5-1 victory over the Lakers and then turned aside 21-of-22 shots in Saturday’s 5-1 victory. Sholl posted a .961 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average over the weekend to finish second among CCHA goaltenders in each category.
In his first season with the Beavers, Sholl has compiled a 7-4-0 record and is third in the CCHA with a 2.57 goals against average and second with a .916 save percentage.
Joining Sholl on the weekly accolade list was Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Nathan Smith as the CCHA Forward of the week, Northern Michigan University’s Trevor Cosgrove as the defenseman of the week and MSU’s Dryden McKay as the goaltender of the week.
Sholl and the rest of the Beaver squad will look to continue their two-game winning streak next weekend when they travel to Bowling Green, Ohio to face the Falcons from Bowling Green State University.
