Patrolled the BSU blue line in 25 games as a junior... Posted an assist in the Beavers’ 3-1 victory at St. Cloud State (12/3/11)... Matched a career-high three shots on goal as the Beavers posted a 6-5 win versus Michigan Tech (10/21/11)... Was whistled for four penalties for 19 minutes... Completed the season with a plus/minus rating of -1... Earned a game misconduct in a 1-0 victory versus North Dakota (11/20/11)... Earned a spot on the WCHA All-Academic Team.

2010-11 / Sophomore
Played in 32 games as a sophomore... Posted a career-high two goals and two assists in 2010-11... Recorded his first collegiate goal in a 3-2 victory over Ferris State in the Mariucci Classic (12/31/10)... Recorded a career-best three shots on goal (11/6/10) versus Northern Michigan... Scored his second goal of the season in a 3-2 victory at Nebraska-Omaha (1/15/11)... Recorded his final point of the season on an assist in a game-tying goal in a 2-2 tie at Michigan Tech (2/12/11)... Was whistled for just seven penalties in 43 games as a Beaver... Bemidji State was 3-0-1 when he registered a point in 2010-11 and was a perfect 2-0-0 when he scored a goal... Was named to the WCHA All-Academic squad.

2009-10 / Freshman
Saw time in 12 games during his sophomore campaign... Made his collegiate debut in the Beavers’ season-opening, 3-1 victory over Air Force (10/31/09)... Recorded his first point as a Beaver (11/7/09) as BSU improved to 7-0-1 to open the season, posting an assist on the power play... Was whistled for just two penalties in 2009-10 and wasn’t escourted to the box after Nov. 11... Found a spot among Bemidji State’s defensive pairs just three times after (1/1/10).

Prior to BSU
Carlson was a new face in 2009-10, but was no stranger to the BSU men’s hockey program... Carlson spent the 2008-09 season as a redshirt practicing with the team on a day-in-day-out basis... He came to the Beavers after a two-year stint with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the NAHL. In 97 games for the Ice Dogs from 2006-08, Carlson netted eight goals and 26 assists for  34 points, with 26 points (4g-22a) coming during the 2007-08 season to rank fourth among Fairbanks’ defensemen... Prior to his junior college career, Carlson was a member of back-to-back North Dakota State High School championship teams at Grand Forks Central.

Born May 29, 1987... Matthew James Carlson is the son of Kirk and Deb Carlson... Has earned a regular spot on the Dean’s list while studying sport management and business administration at BSU.
