Selected as a Preseason All-WCHA goaltender by the league's coaches and Preseason All-WCHA First Team by media covering the league... Earned WCHA Goaltender of the Week (10/16/17) award after leading BSU to a non-conference series win over then-No. 9 Minnesota, which included a career-high 45-save shutout--the 17th of his career... Set the WCHA record for career shutouts (18) with a 19-save, 3-0 performance versus Ferris State (10/28/17)... Named WCHA Goaltender of the Week (10/30/17) after leading BSU to a series victory over Ferris State to open the league schedule... Was named WCHA Goaltender of the Week (12/18/17) after leading BSU to a sweep of Alaska-Anchorage, which included his 19th collegiate shutout (12/16/17)... Moved to second place on BSU's all-time saves list with 21 saves in a 4-1 win over UAA (12/15/17)... Moved into sole possession of second place on the NCAA shutouts list with a  23-save, 2-0 victory over Ferris State and was selected as the league's Goaltender of the Week (1/22/18)... Finished his BSU career as BSU's all-time leader in save percentage (.9211), goals against average (1.97), Saves (3,165), shutouts (21) and minutes played (8,227), while he was second in victories (65)... He also owns single-season records for goals allowed average (1.71/2016-17), shutouts (6) and games played (39)... Was selected WCHA Goaltender of the Week after leading BSU to a five-point weekend versus Alaska (2/19/18) to secure a home playoff berth... Bitzer played in 37 games for Bemidji State totaling 2195:37 minutes... Totaled 819 saves, to rank sixth on BSU's single-season saves list, and allowed 82 total goals, a 2.24 GAA and .909 save percentage... Finished with a record of 16-13-8 on the season and tied for fifth in the nation with five shutouts... Backstopped a penalty-kill unit that ended the seaosn fifth in the nation at .865... Earned a spot on the WCHA All-Academic Team... Named a 2017-18 WCHA Scholar-Athlete... Selected All-WCHA Second Team... A Hobey Baker Memorial Award and Mike Richter Award nominee... Was a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award... Signed a professional contract to play with the Idaho Steelheads, ECHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars.


2016-17 / Junior
An AHCA All-America First Team Member, Bitzer started 39 of the Beavers' 41 games as a junior... At 22-14-3, he helped guide BSU to the WCHA Regular Season Title... The first BSU goalie with a 20 win season since 1994-95... Led the nation in Goals Against Average (1.71) and tied for the lead with six (6) shutouts... Led the nation in minutes played (2,355:22), games played (39) and fourth in save percentage (.932)... Atop the BSU career shutouts list with 16... His 2,346 saves puts him in fifth place on BSU's all-time list... Opened the season with four straight wins, which included back-to-back shutouts at Northern Michigan (Oct. 14-15)... Was selected as one of the NCAA's Three Stars for his performance at NMU... Posted a season-high 35 saves in a 1-1 tie with then-No. 1 Minnesota Duluth before backstopping the Beavers to a win in a shootout (Dec. 16)... 2016-17 Mike Richter Award Finalist... Honored four times as WCHA Defensive Player of the Week... Named a 2016-17 WCHA Scholar-Athlete... 2016-17 WCHA Goaltending Champion... Selected All-WCHA First Team... Was named WCHA Player of the Year... A Hobey Baker Memorial Award Top 10 finalist.

2015-16 / Sophomore
Appeared and started in 34 games during his sophomore campaign... Finished with a record of 13-16-5 with a 2.16 goals against average and a .915 save percentage... Had six shutouts including back-to-back shutouts versus Arizona State (Jan. 15-16), earning NCAA Third Star of the Week honors... Honored twice as WCHA Defensive Player of the Week... Posted his first career assist at Alaska Anchorage (1/9/16)... WCHA Scholar Athlete... WCHA All-Academic Team. 

2014-15 / Freshman
Posted a 14-11-3 record in 28 games played for the Beavers... Had a 1.80 goals against average and a .929 save percentage... Recorded four shutouts... Season-high 41 saves 2x, Last vs. Ferris State (3/14/15)... Won his first collegiate start at North Dakota (10/10/14)... Was named WCHA Rookie of the Week twice (Dec. 12-13), (Jan. 30-31), and WCHA Defensive Player of the Week three times (Jan. 9-10), (Jan. 23-24), (Feb. 27-28)... 2014-15 Mike Richter Award Nominee... WCHA Rookie of the Year... WCHA All-Rookie Team.

Prior to BSU
Bitzer played two seasons for the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League (USHL). After going 22-11-1 with a shutout and a 2.70 goals against average in 2012-13, Bitzer opted to defer enrollment to Bemidji State and return to the Stars again in 2013-14. As the team’s top goaltender, Bitzer recorded a 3.17 goals against average and .903 save percentage.

Bitzer also spent time on the USA Under-19 roster.

In 30 games for Moorhead High School in 2011-12, Bitzer collected a record of 22-8-0 and a 2.30 goals against average, en route to leading the Spuds to an appearance in the state tournament and winning all-state honors and the Frank Brimsek Award for Minnesota’s best senior goaltender. Following the season, the Lincoln Stars selected him in the second round of the USHL entry draft.

Michael Chance Bitzer was born to Shane and Stacy Bitzer on Oct. 23, 1993... Michael is majoring in excersise science.
