Somoza is the first native Californian to wear the "C" for the Beavers. Logged 20 points (15g-5a) on a team-high 15 goals and five assists in 29 games for the Beavers in 2020-21. In addition to leading the team in goals scored, he ranked third among his teammates with 20 points and was tied for third in WCHA goal scoring, while he was tied for second with seven goals scored in 14 league games. He posted multi-goal games Dec. 18, Feb. 19, and again to lead BSU to an NCAA East Regional Semifinal victory over Wisconsin March 26, while he registered a career-best three points (2g-1a) in a 5-4 loss at then-No. 5 Minnesota State Dec. 18. Three of his lamplighters stood as game-winning goals to sit second on the team. He assembled a five-game point streak (2g-3a) ranging from Feb. 25 to March 6 and finished the season with 12 points (9g-3a) in BSU's last 13 games. His 80 shots on goal lead all BSU players. He earned 14 penalty minutes and carried a +2 plus/minus rating.

Somoza was one of BSU's alternate captains in 2019-20. He totaled 18 points (6g-12a) on six goals and 12 assists as a junior and ranked eight on the team in scoring  and seventh in assist scoring. Fifteen (5g-10a) of his 18 points hame in WCHA play seeing time in all 28 of the Beavers league contests. While he failed to record a game-winning goal in 2019-20, BSU was 5-1-0 when he scored a goal. Somoza recorded a season-high of six shots versus Lake Superior State (10/8/19) to match a career-best along with a season-high of two blocks against Northern Michigan (2/14/20). He finished the season tied for sixth on the team aith a +9 plus/minus rating.

Somoza appeared in 29 games for BSU as a rookie... He posted one goal and six assists for seven points... Recorded 34 shots and 11 blocks on the season... He tied for third on the team with a +3 plus/minus rating... Registered his first point as a Beaver with an assist at Alaska (11/4/17)... His first collegiate multi-point game, a two-assist night, came in a 6-3 win at Lake Superior State (1/6/18)... Scored his first career goal, the game-winning goal, at Michigan Tech (2/9/18)... Selected as the WCHA Rookie of the Week (2/12/18) after a two-point night versus MTU.

Prior to BSU
Somoza played four years of junior hockey... In 13 games with the Bloomington Thunder of the USHL, Somoza netted two goals and gained four assists... Somoza finished the 2015-16 campaign with four goals and nine assists for 13 points, including three multi-point games and a game-winning goal... Prior to joining the USHL, Somoza spent two seasons with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the North American Hockey League... In 2014-15 he compiled a total of 65 points (30 goals and 35 assists) in 60 games to rank sixth in the league in scoring... Somoza was also a member of the 2015 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament... In 2013-14, Somoza was part of the NAHL Roberston Cup Champion Fairbanks squad, as he totaled 21 points (21 goals and 11 assists) in 46 games played.

Ethan Somoza was born to Eric and Pamela Somoza May 7, 1996... Ethan is a business administration major with an emphasis in finance... Somoza was the 2019-20 and 2020-21 Sue and Steven Engle Scholarship recipient... A regular on the BSU Dean's List, he earned President's List recognition Spring 2018-Spring 2020.
