MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Sophomore Adam Wilson (Forest Lake, Minn.) was recognized by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference as its Field Athlete of the Week after breaking Bemidji State’s shot put record on Thursday with a 51-6 1/2 throw at the Bison Classic. Wilson’s toss broke Joe Ferraro’s record, set during the 2002 season, by half an inch.

“(Wilson) has improved from an average shot putter as a freshman to a record-holding sophomore, and he has only just begun,” head coach Craig Hougen said. “He has worked all summer and fall to do things to make himself quicker.”

Wilson is poised to do some serious damage for the Beavers at this week’s NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships in Wayne, Neb. He enters the meet ranked second in the conference in both the shot put and the weight throw events. The championships will be held at Wayne State College’s track facility beginning with Thursday’s pentathlon. All other events will be held on Friday and Saturday.
