Beaver track and field teams honored for excellence on and off the track

Bemidji State University sprinter Kristi Buerkle (Jr., Stacy, Minn.) and decathlete Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) have been named among the 2010 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic Track and Field honorees, while BSU’s programs were recognized with USTFCCCA All-Academic Team awards, Aug. 3.


Preble named ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-America Second-Team

Bemidji State men’s track and field student-athlete Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine / College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) College Division Academic All-America Track and Field and Cross Country Second Team, CoSIDA today announced. The Coleraine, Minn. native becomes BSU’s third track and field athlete to make an appearance on the academic All-America team.


Buerkle and Preble named to ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-District V Team

The accolades continue to roll in for Bemidji State track and field standouts Kristi Buerkle (Jr., Stacy, Minn.) and Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.). Just a week after their All-America performances at the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Charlotte, N.C., today the student-athletes were recognized with selections to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) College Division Academic All-District V Track and Field Teams.


Preble gains All-America honors as NCAA Division II decathlon runner-up

Bemidji State University multi-event standout Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) entered the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships as one of the most decorated student-athletes in BSU track and field history and today he left his mark yet again. The senior picked up his third All-America honor with a second-place finish in the decathlon scoring a BSU-record 7,193.


Bemidji State lands 26 on Spring Academic All-NSIC Team

Bemidji State University had 26 student-athletes selected to the 2010 Spring Academic All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Team, announced by the league office today.


Preble eyes national title after day one of the NCAA decathlon

Four-time defending NSIC decathlon champion and two-time All-America performer Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) has the 2010 NCAA outdoor decathlon crown within reach after the first five events. The Bemidji State senior is currently in second place, just 117 points off the lead, at the conclusion of the first full day of competition at Irwin Belk Track Complex in Charlotte, N.C.

Two Bemidji State University track and field athletes today officially had their tickets punched to participate in the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships set for May 27-29 at Irwin Belk Track Complex in Charlotte, N.C. The event took place at Ron Masanz Track in Moorhead, Minn.


NSIC Track and Field Championships open to unseasonable conditions

The 2010 NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships got underway Friday to wet, windy and cold weather conditions at Ron Masanz Track in Moorhead, Minn. Despite the March-like weather, the league crowned six male and female champions. The Bemidji State University men’s team completed the first day of competition in third place with 30 points, while its women’s team sits 11th with five points.


Beavers post five season-bests at Ron Masanz Open

The Bemidji State University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams traveled to Moorhead, Minn. Saturday to compete in the Ron Masanz Open. Despite damp and windy weather conditions, the Beavers posted five season-best marks and took the men’s 4x400-meter relay (3:29.79).

Bemidji State University sprinter Kristi Buerkle (Jr., Stacy, Minn.) and multi-event athlete Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) were named as the 2009-10 Bemidji State University Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year, tonight at the BSU Student-Athlete Appreciation Banquet. The duo of track and field All-America performers were selected from a pool of nominated student-athletes from BSU’s 17 intercollegiate sport programs.

Preble wins fourth consecutive NSIC decathlon championship

Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) perfected his streak of NSIC multi-event championships today by winning his fourth consecutive decathlon title scoring an NSIC-record 6,957 to at Swisher Field in Aberdeen, S.D. The addition of his forth consecutive decathlon crown to his string of four heptathlon victories exhibits his dominance of the multi-discipline events. He has now gone a perfect eight-of-eight in NSIC multi-event competition.


Preble leads after five events of 2010 NSIC multi-event championships

The three-time defending Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) decathlon champion Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) looks to be on his way to a fourth consecutive title. The Bemidji State University senior leads the conference championship field by at least 23 points after the first five bouts of the 10-event decathlon accumulating 3,585 points at Swisher Field in Aberdeen, S.D.

Preble and Juell headline St. John’s Decathlon

Bemidji State's All-America multi-event athlete Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) punched his ticket for Charlotte, N.C. and the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships today with a standout performance at the St. John’s University Decathlon in Collegeville, Minn. The senior scored 7,026 in the 10-event competition to automatically qualify for the national meet and come within 59 points of his own school-record score.


Hartsell leads BSU men on steeple chase sweep

The Beaver men swept the top four spots in the steeple chase Sunday at the Marauder Open. Junior Abe Hartsell (Alexandria, Minn.) led the way with a time of 10:46.00 to pace the quartet. Dominique Trom (Jr., Byron, Minn.), Brian Quigley (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.) and Pat Diedrich rounded out the group


Leonhardt leads BSU to sixth at Bison Open

Brian Leonhardt's (So., Blaine, Minn.) performance in the shot put highlighted the Bison Open for the BSU men's track and field team. The sophomore multi-sport athlete stretched the tape to 48-07.56 to place second in shot put.

The announcement came today as the league office unveiled the 2010 Preseason Outdoor Coaches’ Polls. The Beaver men’s and women’s teams were each picked to finish 10th.

Bemidji State names Ben Baird Assistant Track and Field Coach
