ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference released the bracket for the conference softball tournament taking place on May 5-6 in Crookston, Minnesota on the campus of the University of Minnesota-Crookston. Bemidji State will play Concordia-St. Paul in the opening round at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 5th.
BSU finished the season with a 3-11 record in the NSIC, which including two games with Concordia-St. Paul. In the first match-up between the two teams CSP blanked the Beavers 8-0 at the early season NSIC Crossover. Later in the season, BSU held the Golden Bears to just three runs, but were unable to find a groove offensively in a 3-0 loss.
The 2006 NSIC Softball tournament bracket is set up as a true double elimination format. If BSU, who enters the tournament as the No. 6 seed, beats third-seeded CSP they will advance to play the winner of No. 2 Winona State and No. 7 Northern State at 2:00 p.m. Friday. If BSU loses, they will play the loser of the WSU-NSU matchup also at 2:00 p.m. Friday.
The tournament champion will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II North Central Regional Tournament. Regionals are scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 11-13 at a campus site to be determined.
The regular season for the Beavers ended with an 16-20 record, an improvement of 10 wins over last season’s 6-33 overall record.
