Bemidji State holds Mount Saint Vincent scoreless in twinbill sweep

COCOA BEACH, Fla. (Cocoa Expo Center) -- The Bemidji State University softball team put an exclamation point on its 2006 spring trip sweeping a doubleheader versus Mount Saint Vincent Friday in Cocoa Beach, Fla. BSU pitchers dominated the Dolphins' lineup allowing just nine hits in a pair of complete game shutouts, 6-0 and 4-0.

Allison Willard (Fr., Hutchinson, Minn.) got BSU out on the right foot taking the mound in the first game of the day. In seven innings of work she gave up just two hits while walking four and collecting nine strike outs en route to her second win of the season.

Katie Prettyman (Fr., International Falls, Minn.) posted her best game in the Green and White going 4-for-5 at the plate with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Senior Katie McKenzie (Sr., Hibbing, Minn.) was 2-for-4 with a two-bagger and a pair of runs scored while Michelle Taylor (So., St. Michael, Minn.) collected two hits and scored twice in the 6-0 win.

In the nightcap, BSU ace Lindsey Imhof (Jr., Little Fork, Minn.) improved to 4-0 on the season going the distance for a complete game shutout. She posted a season-high 10 strikeouts in six innings of work as BSU topped the Dolphins 4-0 to cap its spring trip.

McKenzie paced the Beavers collecting a pair of hits in three at bats. Jamie Docken (So., Owatonna, Minn.) went 2-for-4 while Kelly Carlson (Fr., Hines, Minn.) was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

The Beavers improve to 7-3 on the season in the sweep surpassing their 2005 win total of six just 10 games into their 2006 campaign.

BSU will return home to host the University of Minnesota-Morris after a two week lay off. The Beavers open the home portion of the season with the former NSIC foe April 6. The double-header is set for the BSU Softball Field with the first pitch of game one set for 2 p.m.
