COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- Bemidji State University softball team used timely hitting and a pair of tremendous pitching performances to earn a doubleheader sweep over Mayville State University, 4-3 and 7-1, to improve to 4-0 on the season. The four-game winning streak to open the 2006 campaign equals a BSU best set in 2001.
Allison Willard (Fr., Hutchinson, Minn.) took the mound to open the day's competition with a complete game gem. She allowed just two hits and pair of runs while she struck one MSU batter out in her first win in a BSU uniform.
Jamie Docken (So., Owatonna. Minn.) went 4-for-4 in the game with a pair of runs scored while freshman Amy Klaers (Elk River, Minn.) continues to hold a hot bat going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBI.
In game two, Lindsey Imhof (Jr., Little Fork, Minn.) allowed just three hits and one run to improve to 2-0 on the season with a 7-1 victory.
Bridget Smith (Fr., Burnsville, Minn.) paced the BSU offensive attack going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored while Docken and Michelle Taylor (So., St. Michael, Minn.) each collected two RBI.
The 4-0 Beavers will be back in action tomorrow when they continue their spring trip with a twinbill versus Ripon College. Game one is slated for a 9 a.m. start with game two to follow. Both contests will take place in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
