COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- Bemidji State University softball team got the 2006 season underway with doubleheader sweep of Delaware Valley College Monday in Cocoa Beach, Fla. The Beavers edged the Aggies in a pair of one-run games to begin their season 2-0. The sweep marks the first time BSU has put together consecutive wins to kick off a season since the team went 4-0 to start the 2001 campaign.

In the opener, BSU was led by Amy Klaers (Fr., Elk River, Minn.) who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI, but it was Brenda Fritz (Sr., McIntosh, Minn.) that plated the winning run in the 10th to secure the 8-7 win for the Beavers. Junior college transfer Lindsey Imhof (Jr., Big Fork, Minn.) was the pitcher of record for earning her first win in a BSU uniform.

Freshman Amy Potter (Fr., Bovey, Minn.) turned in a gem in her first appearance on the mound for BSU in game two. She allowed just one hit while striking out five in the 1-0 pitcher's dual. Fritz went 2-for-2 while Kelly Carlson (Fr., Hines, Minn.) knocked in the game-winning run on her only hit of the afternoon.

The 2-0 Beavers will be back in action tomorrow when they continue their spring trip with a twinbill versus Mayville State University. Game one is slated for an 11 a.m. start with game two to follow. Both contests will take place in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
