Johnson named conference honorable mention

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Junior infielder Mara Johnson (Bemidji, Minn.) earned her second postseason honor as she was named an All-Conference Honorable Mention, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference office announced today at its annual awards banquet which is held in conjunction with the 2008 NSIC Softball Championship in Marshall, Minn.

The all-conference award is the second of Johnson’s career, as she was named an honorable mention last year as well.

She leads the team in batting average with .347 in 27 games played, while slugging .560. She has a team-leading 26 hits, seven doubles and three home runs while striking out just 12 times. She has started every game this season, and has a team-leading 11 runs batted in.

The NSIC Regular Season Champions of Southwest Minnesota State took home three of the four specialty awards as Erin Dickhausen was named NSIC Player of the Year, Amanda Johnson was named NSIC Pitcher of the Year and Shawn Semler was named NSIC Coach of the Year.

For Johnson and Semler it is the third consecutive year they have won their awards while Dickhausen repeated at NSIC Player of the Year. NSIC Rookie of the Year honors went to Jennifer Radley of Wayne State College.

Bemidji State will play the Mustangs May 3 in the first round of the NSIC Softball Tournament at 12 p.m. Depending on the result of that contest, the Beavers will play either the University of Mary or Concordia-St. Paul at 4 p.m.
