ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team went into Historic Selke Field and took one game of a doubleheader against the St. Cloud State Huskies Tuesday afternoon.

The Beavers (4-19, 2-12 NSIC) defeated SCSU (32-15) in the first game by a score of 4-1 before falling in the nightcap 15-0.

Bemidji State jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Huskies even had a chance to bat. After putting up another insurance run in the top of the fourth, St. Cloud State scored its only run of the game in the bottom half of the frame. BSU added insult to injury in the seventh and won 4-1.

It was the first win for the Beavers since a two-game sweep of Minnesota, Crookston April 17.

BSU cranked 11 hits to the Huskies five, with four Beavers collecting two apiece.

Katie Prettyman (Jr., International Falls, Minn.) scored twice, and Jamie Docken (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.) had two runs batted in to lead Bemidji State.

Kristin Paine (Sr., Chisolm, Minn.) collected her second win of the season after allowing just one run. She gave up five hits in her fifth complete game of the season.

The high-powered Huskies came alive in the final game of the day, collecting 19 hits to BSU’s one, scoring 15 runs in the process. The Beavers didn’t help themselves too much, giving up four errors to the home team.

SCSU scored at least three runs in four innings, and the game was called after BSU was unable to notch a run in the top of the fifth.

Mara Johnson (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) was the lone Beaver to collect a hit, with the rest of the club going 0-for-15 from the plate.

Allison Willard (Jr., Hutchinson, Minn.) threw the first three innings, giving up 11 runs (nine earned) off 14 hits. Jamie Lund (Fr., Grantsburn, Wis.) pitched the final inning, allowing four runs on five hits.

BSU bounces right back into action April 23 against Minnesota State, Moorhead Wednesday in Moorhead, Minn.
