BSU snaps two-game win streak in Day 1 of crossover

BISMARCK, N.D. – The Bemidji State University team came into the first day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference crossover at the University of Mary riding a two-game win streak, but couldn’t continue its recent momentum.

The Beavers dropped all three games Saturday, losing to the University of Upper Iowa 3-1, Wayne State College 8-5 and the University of Concordia-St. Paul 5-0.

In the first game for BSU, Katie Prettyman (Jr., International Falls, Minn.) and Jamie Ford (So., Edina, Minn.) led the way with two hits apiece. Prettyman had the lone run batted in and Ford scored that run. The Beavers allowed 10 hits, and recorded seven.

Allison Willard (Jr., Hutchinson, Minn.) pitched 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits. She took the loss after striking out three and not allowing a walk. Jamie Lund (Fr., Grantsburn, Wis.) pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing only one hit in relief duty.

Karissa Hendrickson (Fr., Big Lake, Minn.), Brittany Bolstad (So., International Falls, Minn.) and Prettyman combined for six hits in Game 2, an 8-5 loss to WSC. Hendrickson and Mara Johnson (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) combined for three RBI, and Bolstad led the team in runs with two.

The Beavers allowed 16 hits, while committing four errors to the Wildcats. Kristin Paine (Sr., Chisholm, Minn.) gave up 13 of those hits, while allowing seven runs (five earned) in the loss. Lund again came on in relief duty, pitching the final 1.2 innings and allowing an unearned run.

Megan McDonald (Jr., Warroad, Minn.) and Hendrickson recorded the only two hits in the third game of the day against CSP. Bemidji State lost 5-0 and allowed eight hits.

All three pitchers played against the Golden Bears, with Willard getting the start. She pitched 2.1 innings and allowed three hits, striking out two and walking two.

Paine took the loss after coming on for 1.2 innings, giving up four earned runs and three hits. Lund wrapped up the final 3.0 innings, giving up one run and allowing two hits.

BSU (3-16, 2-10 NSIC) enters the second day of the NSIC Crossover with games against Winona State (10 a.m.) and Southwest Minnesota State (12 p.m.).
