BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University’s Courtney Anderson (Fr., Virginia, Minn.) and Tyler Scofield (Sr., Prince George, British Columbia) have been selected as Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week for outstanding performances from March 23-29.
Anderson, a rookie pitcher for the softball team, tossed two gems this past weekend, throwing complete game victories against both Concordia University and St. Cloud State University. She allowed nine hits and eight hits, respectively, and gave up just two runs in both contests.
Over the dominating two-game stretch, she sat down eight batters on strikes and put only three on base with walks. Anderson is now 4-4 this season, picking up wins in four of her last five outings. She has 39 strikeouts in 43.1 innings pitched, and has an impressive 2.58 earned run average.
Scofield, a winger for the men’s ice hockey team, was the driving force in leading Bemidji State to its first Frozen Four appearance in school history. Scofield was named Midwest Regional MVP after scoring four goals and assisting on two others in BSU’s 5-1 upset win over No. 2 University of Notre Dame and the 4-1 upset win over No. 9 Cornell University.
The softball team will travel to both Winona, Minn., and Fayette, Iowa, this weekend for doubleheaders against Winona State University and Upper Iowa University. The Beavers will take on the Warriors at 2:00 p.m. Apr. 3, and they will do battle with the Peacocks Apr. 4 at 12:00 p.m.
