Bemidji State drops two at Husky Dome
ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Bemidji State softball team dropped both its games on Saturday losing 8-4 to Valley City State University and 4-3 to Dakota State University at the Husky Dome Tournament in St. Cloud.

The Beavers started off the 2010 season against Valley City State. The first game of the season for BSU started off a bit rough after getting down two runs in the third inning. Before leaving the inning Bemidji State responded back with its own trio of runs to take the lead 3-2. However, Valley City State rallied behind a six-run inning to take a 8-3 lead going into fifth. Chelsea Cardinal (Fr., P., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) went in to relief pitch and kept the rest of the game scoreless for VCSU. Unfortunately BSU could only close the gap 8-4 before ending the game.

In the second game of the day against Dakota State University, the Beavers saw themselves down 3-0 late in the game. BSU scored a run before Stephanie Rossman (Fr., C., Menomonee Falls, Wis.) hit her first collegiate homer, scoring two runs to tie the game at 3-3. However, by the top of the sixth Dakota State had gained a 4-3 lead and then forced a double-play when Bemidji State had two runners on base, ending any hope of a BSU comeback. Cardinal came in for relief pitching again, and this time only gave up one earned run.

The Bemidji State softball team will play again tomorrow back at the Husky Dome Tournament in St. Cloud. They will take on St. Cloud State at 9 a.m. before finishing the tournament with Southwest Minnesota State at 3 p.m.
