BSU loses twin bill to Winona State
BEMIDJI, Minn. - On the first day of a five-day road trip, the Bemidji State University softball team dropped a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader to Winona State on Saturday afternoon with scores of 10-2 and 8-2. On the day, BSU scored four runs on 12 hits while committing six errors.

Starting off the doubleheader the Beavers shutdown the Warriors for two innings without conceding a hit. However, in the thrid and fourth innings Winona State would score a combined eight runs. Responding in the top of the fifth BSU got on the board scoring two runs as Kim Powell (So., IF, Rogers, Minn.) and Erin Emanuel (Fr., IF, Esko, Minn.). The runs were batted in by Kaitlin Hill (Fr., IF, Dayton, Minn.) and Jamie Ford (Sr., OF, Edina, Minn.). Unfortunately for the Beavers, the Warriors were able to close out the inning stranding three BSU players on base. Winona State went on to score two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim the early victory.

In the second game of the day, Ford hit her second home run of the season to give Bemidji State an early one-run lead. In the bottom of the first an error by the Beavers gave the Warriors a tying-run. Later in the fifth inning Hill batted in another runner scoring Kayla Babinski (Fr., IF, Devils Lake, N.D.) to cut the Winona State lead to 4-2 after five innings.

Winona State would out-power BSU in the remainder of the game, scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth and shutting down the Beavers in the top of the seventh to sweep the doubleheader.

Sophomore right-hander Courtney Anderson (Virginia, Minn.) pitched four innings on the day giving up six hits and striking-out two. Anderson (1-8) started the first game of the series, while freshman lefty Kelsey Saralampi (Esko, Minn.) started in the nightcap. Saralampi (2-8) 5.1 innings between the two games giving up an additional six hits and also striking-out two Warriors.

The Beavers continue their road trip with a stop in Fayette, Iowa on Sunday for a conference doubleheader against Upper Iowa, with the first game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
