Upper Iowa sweeps BSU
Fayette, Iowa - The Bemidji State University softball lost Sunday’s doubleheader to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe Upper Iowa University with scores of 4-1 and 8-3 at the Eischeid Complex in Fayette, Iowa.

Kaitlin Hill (Fr., IF, Dayton, Minn.) batted a perfect 3-3 in the first game while also scoring the lone run for Beavers in the top of the third. The Peacocks would go on to score four unanswered runs, two in the third and two in the fifth, to win the game 4-1. Also picking up hits for the Beavers were Jamie Ford (Sr., OF, Edina, Minn.), Stephanie Rossman (Fr., C, Menomonee Falls, Wis.), and Sydney Epema (So., IF, Crookston, Minn.). Even though Bemidji State lost, the Beavers finished the game without committing any errors.

In the nightcap Ford picked up her sixth-consecutive game with hit as the Beavers improved from the first game gaining three runs on seven hits. In the third inning after Hill was walked, Ford doubled to left center to score Hill putting the Beavers on the board first. With Ford on second, Rossman drove one past the shortstop for a one base knock that scored Ford. The Beavers would be retired at the end of the third with a 2-0 lead. Continuing the scoring, Kayla Babinski (Fr., IF, Devils Lake, N.D.) homered to extend the Beavers lead to 3.

However, Upper Iowa batted in five runs in the fifth inning to erase the BSU lead. The Peacocks scored three additional runs in the bottom of the sixth before forcing Bemidji State to go three up, three down in the seventh capping the Upper Iowa sweep.

In the past six games Jamie Ford has batted 9-20 (.450). Kaitlin Hill also has gained at least one hit in the past four games batting 6-12 (.500) in that stretch.

The Beavers continue their five-day road trip with a stop in Wahpeton, N.D. for a nonconference doubleheader against North Dakota State College of Science on Monday. The first game of the twin bill is set to begin at 1 p.m.
