Bemidji State splits with Northern State
Aberdeen, S.D. - Led by sophomore right-hander Courtney Anderson (Virginia, Minn.) the Beavers picked up their second Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win of the season shutting-out the Northern State Wolves 4-0. The Wolves snuck-out an eight-inning victory downing BSU 5-4 to split Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Facing 25 batters in the first game, Anderson only gave up one hit in the shutout victory while also striking out 11. The only hit conceded to the Wolves came in the bottom of the first, but Anderson responded picking up all three outs in the inning through strike outs. Crystal Bowen (Fr., IF, Duluth, Minn.) went 2-3 (.667) in the game scoring twice and picking up two RBI.

In the second game of the day, Stephanie Rossman (Fr., C, Menomonee Falls, Wis.) put the Beavers up early knocking a two-run homer over the left field wall. Kelsey Saralampi (Fr., LHP, Esko, Minn.) started in the circle for the Beavers. After starting well only giving up one run and three hits in the first three innings, Saralampi was replaced by Anderson in the fourth after giving up three runs to the Wolves.

Pitching for the second time on the day, Anderson came in only giving up one hit in the remaining four innings. Down 4-2 in the sixth inning, a double by Jamie Lund (Jr., Util., Grantsburg, Wis.) scored two runners to tie the game at 4-4. Headed into extra innings for the third time this season, the Beavers failed to score any runs in the top of the eighth. Unfortunately for the Beavers, two errors would allow the Wolves to score a game-winning unearned run in the bottom of the eighth.

On the day Courtney Anderson pitched 11 innings facing 43 batters, striking-out 17. Her 11 strike outs in the first game surpasses her previous single-game high of nine, which was set in the second game against Northwestern College on March 7, 2009.

Bemidji State finishes it five-day road trip picking up four wins including one NSIC win. The Beavers will return to the field Saturday afternoon as they host Southwestern Minnesota State for a conference doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
