BSU splits with Mayville State

MAYVILLE, N.D. - The Bemidji State University softball team split Friday’s nonconference doubleheader against Mayville State, dropping the first game 4-6 before winning the nightcap 8-5.

In the 4-6 loss to the Comets, BSU’s Erin Emanuel (Fr., IF, Esko, Minn.) batted in the only run for the Beavers, as the other three runs were scored on errors. Bemidji State had a total of six hits in the game with Stephanie Rossman (Fr., C, Menomonee Falls, Wis.) batting 1-2 (.500) on the day. Rossman was walked twice in the game.

The Beavers picked up their eighth win of the season in the nightcap. The Beavers had eight runs on 10 hits while committing three errors.

Jame Ford (Sr., OF, Edina, Minn.) went 3-5 (.600) in the game. Ford hit one double while batting in two runners. Jamie Lund (Jr., P/Util., Grantsburg, Wis.) hit 2-4 (.500) in the game while also picking up one RBI. Chelsea Cardinal (Fr., P/OF, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) was 2-3 (.667) in the game and picked up two RBI as well.

In the first inning with the Rossman and Lund on base, cardinal hit a double scoring the two to give the Beavers an early lead. Later in the fourth inning the beavers scored three runs. Emanuel doubled to get on base and Ford batted her in. Lund  later got a hit that scored Ford. Rounding out the inning, Cardinal hit in Lund to give the Beavers a 6-2 lead.

Wrapping the game up, Bemidji State scored two runs in the seventh inning. A sacrafice fly by Sydney Epema (So., IF, Crookston, Minn.) scored Kayla Babinksi (Fr., IF, Devils Lake, N. D.). Ford later singled to score Emanuel sealing the victory for the Beavers.
