BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team returns to action this weekend as the Beavers head down to St. Cloud, Minn. to participate in the two-day Husky Dome Tournament hosted by St. Cloud State.
The team will have a total of four games over the two-day stretch, starting off against Jamestown College on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Beavers will then face three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponents on Sunday with University of Mary at 10 a.m., St. Cloud State at 4 p.m. and Concordia-St. Paul at 6 p.m.
Starting off the season, the Beavers have gone 1-3, picking up a 1-0 win over McKendree University on March 7. Also in preparation for the 2011 conference schedule, the softball team went 4-2 in exhibition play, sweeping Mineral Area Community College and splitting with both Jefferson County Community College and St. Charles Community College.
Leading the Beavers at the plate is sophomore infielder Kayla Babinksi (Devils Lake, N.D.) with a .538 batting average. Babinski has seven hits off 13 appearances with one double, one triple and one RBI. In the circle, junior right-hander Courtney Anderson (Virginia, Minn.) leads the pitching corps with a 3.60 era, collecting 18 strikeouts in 15 innings worth of work.
After the Husky Dome Tournament, the Beavers will open conference play over the April 2-3 weekend with doubleheaders against Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State University, Mankato.
