No. 8 Minnesota State stifles BSU batting
MANKATO, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to No. 8 Minnesota State on Sunday afternoon by scores of 8-0 and 5-0. Going against strong pitching by the Mavericks, the Beavers could only muster four hits on the day.

In the first game, Courtney McKelvogue for the Mavericks threw a one-hitter en route to a 8-0 win over the Beavers in five innings. The lone hit for the Beavers came from Megan Beard (Jr., IF, Eveleth, Minn.) in the top of the fifth inning. The Mavericks were able to score eight runs off of eight hits, with six runs being earned. McKelvogue had eight strikeouts on 19 BSU batters.

The offensive woes continued in the second game of the doubleheader for the Beavers. Bemidji State only had three hits in the game, with two coming from Beard as she went perfect at the plate (2-2). The other hit came from Crystal Bowen (So., IF, Duluth, Minn.) off a single to right field in the top of the first inning. Minnesota State again had eight hits, but only scored five runs in the seven inning game.

Bemidji State now drops to 1-11 (0-4 NSIC) on the season. Up next for the Beavers is a doubleheader slated against conference-foe Minnesota, Crookston on Tuesday at noon.
