Wildcats shutout Beavers in conference doubleheader
BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader Monday afternoon to Wayne State College by scores of 3-0 and 8-0 (5 innings) at the BSU Softball Field.

The wildcats only conceded four hits on the day, two in each game, to the BSU batters, while Wayne State recorded 16 hits on the day, eight in each game. Hayley Williams (Jr., OF, Crete, Ill.) led the Beavers in the first game getting both hits as she went 2-3 (.667) in the contest, including a double in the bottom of the sixth inning. Both Ashly Erickson (Jr., UT, Little Falls, Minn.) and Nicole Dupay (Fr., OF, Woodbury, Minn.) had a hit in the second game against the Wildcats.

Kelsey Saralampi (So., LHP, Esko, Minn.) was in the circle for Bemidji State in the first game. After conceding three runs in the first two innings, Saralampi clamped down defensively and went on to record a total of eight strikeouts in the contest. Courtney Anderson (Jr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) pitched the second game recording six strikeouts.

All the runs for Wayne State in the second game came in the top of the fifth inning. Down 3-0 with one out in the top of the fifth, the Wildcats essentially sealed their victory with a three-run double hit down the left-field line by Sam Earleywine to put the Wildcats up 6-0. That was followed up by a two-run homer with the next at bat by Jennifer Radley.

The Beavers now drop to 1-15 (0-8 NSIC) on the year. Bemidji State will next be at MSU Moorhead on Wednesday to take on the Dragons in a doubleheader slated to begin at noon.
