Beavers drop doubleheader to Golden Bears
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader Friday afternoon to the University of Concordia, St. Paul by scores of 5-1 and 10-2. Both games saw the Beavers notch seven hits, but were outpaced by the Golden Bears 20 total hits.

In game one of the afternoon’s doubleheader, left-handed pitcher Kelsey Saralampi (So., Esko, Minn.) pitched six innings for the Beavers only conceding one earned run off of eight hits. Saralampi had four strikeouts in the game and had the Golden Bears go three up, three down in the first inning. Crystal Bowen (So., IF, Duluth, Minn.) led the Beavers in the hitting department going 2-3 (.667) in the game. Bowen also recorded her second RBI of the season in the top of the fourth inning scoring Nicole Dupay (Fr., OF, Woobury, Minn.) for the lone BSU run. The other Bemidji State hits came from Danika Stelton (So., OF, International Falls, Minn.), Hayley Williams (Jr., OF, Crete, Ill.), Megan Beard (Jr., IF, Eveleth, Minn.), Kayla Babinski (So., IF, Devils Lake, Minn.) and Courtney Loegering (Jr., OF, Blaine, Minn.), all with one hit each.

The second game saw the Beavers score two runs off seven hits, but the Golden Bears offense only got stronger as Concordia-St. Paul capped the sweep 10-2 in five innings. Both BSU runs would come in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs, Beard singled up the middle to get on base. Chelsea Cardinal (So., UT, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) followed up with a double to drive home Beard. Kayla Minarich (So., OF, Crosby, Minn.) then came in to pinch run for Cardinal and advanced to third on a passed ball. Babinski then doubled down the left field line to score Minarich. However, the Golden Bears would end the inning with just two runs scored by the Beavers and would eventually take an eight-run lead in the bottom of the fifth to end the game. Bemidji State’s Megan Bergeson (Fr., UT, New London-Spicer, Minn.), Loegering and Stelton all had one hit apiece in the contest.

Bemidji State (2-20, 1-13 NSIC) will now face the St. Cloud State Huskies (19-24, 4-14 NSIC) tomorrow afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn. The conference doubleheader is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
