St. Cloud State edges Beavers 10-2 and 3-1
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – An efficient offense led St. Cloud State University past the Bemidji State University softball team on Saturday afternoon as the Huskies took the doubleheader by scores of 10-2 and 3-1.

In game one, St. Cloud State scored 10 run on just 10 hits while the Beavers committed three errors. The Huskies started the game off quickly knocking in six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Bemidji State was able to clamp down defensively the next few innings, before giving up four runs in the bottom of the sixth ending the game 10-2.

BSU’s two runs came in the top of the sixth behind runs by Courtney Loegering (Jr., OF, Blaine, Minn.) and Megan Bergeson (Fr., UT, New London-Spicer, Minn.). Loegering led off the inning and got on base after she was walked. Bergeson then singled down the left field line to get put Loegering in scoring position. Danika Stelton (So., OF, International Falls, Minn.) followed up with a two-bagger to left center to score Loegering and put Bergeson on third. With one out, Hayley Williams (Jr., OF, Crete, Ill.) grounded out to short stop, but the play scored Bergeson. However, Stelton was then caught trying to advance to third after the throw to first for the third out of the inning.

The second game saw St. Cloud State get five additional hits, but only scoring three runs. Bemidji State kept the game errorless, but only managed one run off three hits. With the game scoreless in the top of the fourth inning, the Beavers would be the team to open the scoring. Williams led off the inning with a single to left field. A sacrifice bunt by Crystal Bowen (So., IF, Duluth, Minn.) advanced Williams to second. The Huskies then made a pitching change up, putting Alyssa Roberts into the circle. Kayla Babinski (So., IF, Devils Lake, N.D.) was the next batter up and hit a double to left field to bring Williams home. However, Roberts would strike out the next to BSU batters to end the inning. Just one inning later, in the bottom of the fifth, the Huskies scored three runs including a two-run homer by Kelly Olson. A double play by St. Cloud State in the top of the seventh would end the Beavers hopes of a late rally.

Courtney Anderson (Jr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) was in the circle for the Beavers in the second game and recorded five strikeouts. Babinski went 3-5 (.600) on the day, hitting one double and batting one runner in.

The Beavers (2-22, 1-15 NSIC) will now return home where they will face Northern State on Monday afternoon in a doubleheader set to begin at 2 p.m. Bemidji State will follow up with a road series against Minnesota, Crookston on Tuesday and a doubleheader against the University of Mary on Wednesday.
