Beavers out powered by Winona State
BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team couldn’t overcome the strong hitting by Winona State University as the Beavers loss both games of the conference doubleheader to the Warriors by scores of 11-0 and 10-5.

The first game saw Winona State score 11 runs on 14 hits while the Beavers committed two errors. The Warriors’ pitching duo of Stacey Struzynski and Felicia Meyer held Bemidji State to just two hits in the five inning game. Hayley Williams (Jr., OF, Crete, Ill.) and Crystal Bowen (So., IF, Duluth, Minn.) had the two hits for the Beavers in the game. Struzynski and Meyer also recorded a combined 11 strikeouts against BSU.

A late rally in the second game came up just short as Bemidji State fell 10-5 in seven innings. Backed by a seven-run inning in the top of the fourth, the Warriors had claimed a 9-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. Bemidji State responded with a solo run that was created by Courtney Anderson (Jr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) singling to center field to drive home Kayla Babinski (So., IF, Devils Lake, Minn.). The RBI was the first of the season for Anderson in only her second plate appearance on the year.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Beavers would string together four runs on five hits to decrease the Winona State lead to just four. All five hits came in a row as Courtney Loegering (Jr., OF, Blaine, Minn.), Williams, Megan Beard (Jr., IF, Eveleth, Minn.), Bowen, and Babinksi all had singles. Beard and Bowen were credited with a single RBI while Babinski scored two. However, the Warriors would shutdown the Beaver rally and post a solo run in the top of the seventh to claim the victory.

Anderson pitched all seven innings recording six strikeouts and no earned runs. Beard, Loegering and Danika Stelton (So., OF, International Falls, Minn.) all went 3-4 (.750) in the game.

Bemidji State (5-27, 4-20 NSIC) will finish out the regular season with a doubleheader against Upper Iowa University at home tomorrow. The first game is set to start a 1 p.m.
