Gunderson signs one for 2012 softball season
BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team has announced the signing of Allison Roberts (Crystal, Minn.) to a National Letter of Intent. The right-handed pitcher is the first to sign with BSU since Shane Gunderson took the helm of the program last fall.

Roberts is a five year letter from Robbinsdale Armstrong High School ... In her first four years with Robbinsdale Armstrong the Falcons have gone 40-52 ... Roberts has been selected as All-conference (Classic Lake Conference) and All-section (6AAA) twice in her first four years with the Falcons ... She was also voted the team’s Rookie of the Year in her eighth grade season and also received MVP honors her junior year ... Roberts pitched a complete-game shutout in the 2009 ASA Girls’ Class A 16-Under Fast Pitch National Tournament.

Personal: Allison Louise Roberts ... Born May 13, 1993 ... Daughter of Paul and Vicki Roberts ... Sister, Rachel, played softball for Hamline University and the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Gunderson finished his first season a 5-27 overall record with a 4-20 record in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. The Beavers had no seniors on the 2011 squad and can return everyone from the 16-person roster. Returners will include Courtney Anderson (Jr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) and Kayla Babinski (So., IF, Devils Lake, Minn). Anderson finished the season with a 4.11 ERA pitching in a total of 111.2 innings for the Beavers. She recorded a career-best 124 strikeouts and is currently fifth in the NSIC for most strikeouts per game averaging 7.77. Babinski led the Beavers at the plate, with a .298 batting average (28-94). She also led the team in RBI (11), slugging percentage (.372) and total bases (35).
