Beavers fall 11-1 to Georgian Court and 4-0 to West Virginia Wesleyan
CLERMONT, Fla. - The Bemidji State University softball team fell in two games this afternoon at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. The Beavers fell 11-1 to Georgian Court University in five innings to open the day. In the second game, BSU put up a fight against West Virginia Wesleyan College, but fell 4-0 to the Bobcats who are receving votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II poll. BSU falls to 4-4 on the season with the losses.

In game one against the Lions, BSU started freshman Allison Roberts (RHP, Crystal, Minn.) who gave up eight earned runs on eight hits in 2.2 innings pitched. Roberts was relieved by Kelsey Saralampi (Jr., LHP, Esko, Minn.) who gave up three runs, one of them earned on one hit.

The Lions, who are ranked ninth in the East Region, struck early with four runs on six hits off Roberts in the top of the first inning. They added one run on two hits in the second inning and went ahead 10-0 with five runs on three hits in the third inning. Bemidji State finally put up a run in the bottom of the fourth as Summer Monsrud (Fr., OF, Bemidji, Minn.) crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice by Megan Beard (Sr., IF, Eveleth, Minn.). Monsrud got on base on a single and moved to second on a stolen base. The freshman advanced to third on an error by the catcher before crossing the plate.

Monsrud went 1-for-3 to lead the Beavers. Crystal Bowen (Jr., IF, Duluth, Minn.) was 1-for-2 on the day for BSU’s only other hit of the game. Georgian Court pitcher Illiana Teran went five innings with one earned run on two hits.

The Lions were paced at the plate by second baseman Rachel Ruch who went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Designated player Brooke Hull was 3-for-3 with one run and three RBI. Dara Schroeder was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

In game two against West Virginia Wesleyan, Courtney Anderson (Sr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) put up a strong pitching performance against a strong Cougar squad as she went six innings only giving up three hits and two of the four earned runs. Cassie MacArthur (Fr., RHP,  Cottage Grove, Minn.) came in the seventh inning and gave up one hit and the final two runs of the game.

The Bobcats threw a one-hitter against the Beavers with the lone hit coming on Kayla Babinski’s (Jr., IF, Devil’s Lake, N.D.) single in the top of the seventh inning. West Virginia Wesleyan came into Monday ranked

Bemidji State will return to action tomorrow as they take on Post University at 2 p.m. CT in Clermont, Fla. and No. 24 Grand Valley State University at 4 p.m.  CT.
