Beavers host Golden Bears and Huskies in final home games of 2012

BEMIDJI, Minn.- The Bemidji State University softball team will host Concordia University, St. Paul and St. Cloud State University this weekend at BSU Softball Field. Saturday’s games against the Golden Bears will commence at 12 and 2 p.m. Saturday will serve as “Senior Day” for Bemidji State. Seniors Courtney Anderson (RHP, Virginia, Minn.), Megan Beard (IF, Eveleth, Minn.) and Courtney Loegering (OF, Blaine, Minn.) will be honored along with junior Kayla Babinski (IF, Devils Lake, N.D.), who will graduate early. Sunday’s games against the Huskies are set for 12 and 2 p.m. start times.

Bemidji State enters the weekend with a 9-26 (2-14 NSIC) mark after mid-week losses at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. The Beavers have been led in the circle by Anderson, who has a 2.35 ERA in 110 innings pitched this season. Anderson struggled in game one of Wednesday’s doubleheader contest with the Wolves. The senior gave up five earned runs on five hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Anderson will look to bounce back against the Golden Bears and Huskies. She is 20 strikeouts away from setting a season best for batters fanned. Anderson currently has 105 strikeouts on the year and needs 125 to surpass the 124 batters she struck out as a junior.

At the plate, Summer Monsrud (Fr., OF, Bemidji, Minn.) currently leads the team with a .295 batting average and 14 runs scored. BSU is also getting help at the plate from Beard, who is hitting .284, and Crystal Bowen (Jr., IF, Duluth, Minn.) who is hitting at a .265 clip this season. Nicole Dupay (So., OF, Woodbury, Minn.) leads the team with eight RBI but is struggling overall at the plate with a .120 batting average.

Scouting Concordia-St. Paul

The Golden Bears enter play this weekend with a 22-17 (7-9 NSIC) record. Concordia-St. Paul has lost their last four games as they fell in doubleheaders to No. 21 Augustana College and No. 9 Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The Golden Bears are led at the plate by freshman Alicia Meiser with a .414 batting average and 24 runs scored. Erin Tjornhom is hitting .409 for the squad with six home runs and 28 RBI. Katie Anderson is batting .382 on the year with 31 runs score with five home runs and 25 runs batted in.

In the circle, Concordia-St. Paul is paced by Ashley Kluever who is 11-7 with a 3.34 ERA. The Golden Bears will also send Stephanie Kappes who is 9-9 with a 3.84 ERA on the year.

Scouting St. Cloud State


The Huskies are 18-24 (4-12 NSIC) coming into Sunday. St. Cloud State is led at the plate by Samantha Klank, who is batting .327 on the year with 22 runs scored. In addition, the Huskies have Mikayla Hogan, who is hitting .315 on the year with 19 runs scored, six home runs and 22 RBI.

In the circle, St. Cloud State looks to Kenda Merrit who is 10-10 with a 3.74 ERA. The Huskies also use Kelly Franks as a starter. She is 5-8 with a 2.72 ERA on the season.
