Beavers look to snap conference skid against MSU Moorhead Tuesday

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University softball team will host Minnesota State University, Moorhead in a mid-week doubleheader Tues., April 3 at 2 and 4 p.m. at the BSU Softball Field. The Beavers come into Tuesday with a 7-20 mark and will look to get in the win column in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play as they enter the games with an 0-10 record in conference action. MSU Moorhead enters the doubleheader with a 5-20 mark (1-9 NSIC).

Bemidji State continues to be led by freshman outfielder Summer Monsrud (Bemidji, Minn.) at the plate. Monsrud is batting .347 with 12 runs scored and six runs batted in during her first season with the Beavers. Junior Crystal Bowen (IF, Duluth, Minn.) has a .273 batting average with four runs batted in this season.

In the circle, Courtney Anderson (Sr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) continues to keep BSU in games as she boasts a 4-7 mark with a 2.48 earned runs average, ranked ninth in the conference. In addition to Anderson, Kelsey Saralampi (Jr., LHP, Esko, Minn.) comes in with a 5.89 ERA in  52.1 innings pitched.

Bemidji State went 0-4 on the weekend but played a close final game with Wayne State College (Neb.) Sunday as it wasn’t until a two-run homerun from the Wildcats in the bottom of the sixth inning that either team scored. Wayne State came away with a 2-0 win over the Beavers in the end.

Scouting MSU Moorhead
The Beavers and Dragons met earlier this season with MSU Moorhead winning a close one, 3-1, Feb. 28 in Vadnais Heights, Minn. The Dragons are one spot ahead of the Beavers in the conference standings.

MSU Moorhead’s bats are paced by Paige Smith, who is hitting .365 with 15 runs scored and six RBI on the year.  Smith also leads her team with seven stolen bases. Amanda Moore is pacing the Dragons with 17 RBI and is hitting .286.

In the circle, MSU Moorhead is led by Amanda Lynch, who is 3-6 with a 5.84 ERA in 61.2 innings pitched.
