Beavers travel to Bismarck to face U-Mary Tuesday

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University softball team will head to Bismarck, N.D. to face University of Mary for a mid-week Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader Tues., April 17 with games commencing at 2 and 4 p.m. The Beavers enter play with a 10-29 (3-17 NSIC) record. U-Mary is 19-16 (10-10 NSIC) on the season. BSU is coming off a 1-3 weekend at home last weekend as they picked up a win over Concordia University, St. Paul, the team’s first win over the Golden Bears since 2009.

Megan Beard (Sr., IF, Eveleth, Minn.) is coming off a .333 week for the Beavers in which she scored four runs and had five RBI. Beard was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI in a 7-1 win over Concordia-St. Paul. In game two against St. Cloud State April 15, she had a bases clearing double to knot the game at 5-5. She finished the game with three RBI and one run scored.

Summer Monsrud (Fr., OF, Bemidji, Minn.) upped her average over the weekend and is now leading the team hitting .311 with 16 runs scored. Beard is now hitting .284 on the year with eight runs scored and 11 RBI.

In the circle, Courtney Anderson (Sr., RHP, Bemidji, Minn.) continues to lead BSU with a 7-10 record and a 2.24 ERA with 117 strikeouts. Anderson needs eight more strikeouts to set a personal best eclipsing her 124 strikeouts from the 2011 season.

Scouting University of Mary

U-Mary went 1-3 last weekend with a win over Upper Iowa University (6-3). The Marauders lost to the Peacocks, 6-4, and lost a doubleheader to Winona State University (7-0, 12-1).

The Marauders are led by Jessica Alvarado’s .384 batting average. Alvarado is tied for the team lead with 23 runs scored and leads the team with nine stolen bases. In addition, U-Mary has Allison Brown, who is hitting .350 with four home runs and 20 RBI with 23 runs scored.

In the circle, the Marauders are led by Emily Sinclair’s 2.70 ERA with a 9-5 record and 77 strikeouts.
