BSU falls in pair of one-hitters to No. 10 Winona State

WINONA, Minn.- Bemidji State University softball pitchers Courtney Anderson (Sr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.), Kelsey Saralampi  (Jr., LHP, Esko, Minn.) and Allison Roberts (Fr., RHP, Crystal, Minn.) held No. 10 Winona State University to three runs in each game of a doubleheader but were one-hit in both games as they fell 3-0, 3-0 Saturday afternoon. The Beavers fall to 10-33 (3-21 NSIC). The Warriors improve to 38-7 (19-5 NSIC) with the doubleheader sweep.

Anderson got the start for the Beavers in game one and went six innings as she pitched a six-hitter while giving up only three runs. Anderson had four strikeouts and needs only two more fanned batters to surpass her career best for strikeouts which was 124 during the 2011 season. However, she was bested in the circle on the afternoon as Stace Struzynski threw a one-hitter for Winona State and picked up the shutout.

After pitching two scoreless innings to open the game, the Warriors put in two runs in the third frame as Molly Link hit a two-run home run driving in Brooke Piotrowski, who reached on a double.

Winona State added a third run in the bottom of the fourth as Samantha Hildebrandt hit a solo shot.

Cassie MacArthur (Fr., 1B/RHP, Cottage Grove, Minn.) had the lone hit for Bemidji State in game one.

In game two, Saralampi got the start for the Beavers going five innings and giving up eight hits and three runs. Roberts came in to relieve Roberts in the sixth inning and took down the Warriors in order. Kelsey Anderson started for Winona State and pitched the team’s second-straight one-hitter of the day and picked up the shutout.

Saralampi pitched two scoreless innings until the Warriors finally plated three runs in the third frame. Kim Waccholder hit a bases clearing double to score Link, Piotrowski and Melissa Reyes.

MacArthur was also the only player to get a hit in game two.

Bemidji State will return to action tomorrow as they wrap up Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play against Upper Iowa University at 1 and 3 p.m. in Fayette, Iowa.
