BSU falls to St. Joseph's of Indiana, Bentley in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bemidji State University softball team lost a pair of spring training contests in Clermont, Fla. Thursday afternoon. The Beavers fell 4-2 to St. Joseph’s College of Indiana before coming up short in 7-2 loss to Bentley University of Massachusetts to close out the day. After taking two out of three games in its first day of play in Florida, BSU had lost four straight games.

BSU is now 4-11 on the season with six more games to play on its spring training trip, which ends Monday. Bemidji State will jump into Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play March 26 at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.

St. Joseph’s remained undefeated on the season, winning its fifth consecutive game to start spring training. The Pumas, who began their season Tuesday, also defeated mutual opponent West Liberty University and later played NSIC newcomer University of Sioux Falls.

Bentley, which beat Sioux Falls 7-6 on the day to halt a three-game losing streak, improved to 4-4 in 2013 by day’s end.

After taking Friday off Bemidji State will sandwich a doubleheader against Gallaudet College out of Washington D.C. Sunday between a pair of exhibition contests against Heartland College (Ill.) and Gloucester College (N.J.) Saturday and two more exhibition games against College of DuPage (Ill.) and Tompkins Cortland (N.Y.) to finish the trip Monday.
