Beavers sweep spring training doubleheader against Gallaudet

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – On the second-to-last day of its spring training trip to Florida, the Bemidji State University softball team swept a doubleheader against Gallaudet University of Washington D.C. The games were the final two non-exhibition contests of the trip for the Beavers, who will play two more games Monday before returning home. 

The Bison entered the day with an unblemished 8-0 record, but BSU won by scores of 22-0 and 8-0 to hand Gallaudet its first two losses and complete its non-conference schedule with a 6-11 ledger. The Beavers will finish their spring training trip with a 4-5 record.

In the first game of the day, senior pitcher Kelsey Saralampi (Esko, Minn.) went the distance in the game, tossing her second shutout of the trip to up her record to 4-4 on the season. At the plate, Cassie MacArthur (So., IF, Cottage Grove, Minn.) and Nicole Dupay (Jr., OF, Woodbury, Minn.) both hit their first collegiate home runs in the win.

MacArthur and Lyndsey Peterson (Fr., P/IF, Cottonwood, Minn.) each drove home four runs in the game and Molly Arola (Sr., IF, Walker, Minn.) scored five runs and went 4-for-4 with one RBI hitting second in the game. 

Allie Duellman (Jr., P, Maplewood, Minn.) started in the circle for in the Beavers in the second game and was supported by seven first-inning runs. Dupay and Mikayla Osterman (Fr., C, Sierra Vista, Ariz.) each had two RBIs.

Duellman, who racked up five strikeouts and earned the win, came out after two frames and Lyndsey Peterson and Allison Roberts finished off the Beavers’ second consecutive shutout.

After two more exhibition games against College of DuPage (Ill.) and Tompkins Cortland (N.Y.) to finish the trip Monday, BSU opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play March 26 with a doubleheader at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. The Beavers’ first home games will be April 6 against Wayne State College of Nebraska.
