BSU drops two to Augustana in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. The Bemidji State University softball team finished a busy weekend with a pair of losses to Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. Sunday afternoon. The Vikings won the first game 7-2 and erupted offensively late in the second game for a 14-2 victory. Both games were home games for Bemidji State, despite having been played in South Dakota as the games were originally supposed to be played at BSU.

With 10 losses in as many games, Bemidji State is now 7-22 on the season with 1-11 NSIC mark.

Theresa McMahon got things started for Augustana in the top of the first with a solo home run, but Bemidji State’s Crystal Bowen (Sr., IF, Duluth, Minn.) gave the Beavers a quick answer in the bottom of the inning with a solo blast of her own to knot the score at one. The home run was Bowen’s third of the season.

The Vikings regained the lead in the third at 2-1 and cushioned the advantage when MacMahon stole home. AC also scored in the fifth sixth and seventh and BSU’s Nicole Dupay (Jr., OF, Woodbury, Minn.) drove in Megan Bergeson (Jr., IF, Spicer, Minn.) to give BSU its only other run in a 7-2 loss.

Allie Dulleman (Jr., P, Maplewood, Minn.) was dealt the loss.

Kelsey Saralampi (Sr., P, Esko, Minn.) got the starting nod in Game 2 and and kept Bemidji State close for five innings. After going into the sixth inning with a 3-0 deficit, the Beavers allowed two runs in the inning and the Vikings tacked on nine more runs in the seventh to make it 14-0.

Bergeson knocked in Lyndsey Peterson (Fr., P/IF, Cottonwood, Minn.) in the bottom of the seventh to end Augustana’s shutout bid.

BSU will start next week by heading east to Duluth for a Tuesday doubleheader against the University of Minnesota Duluth. Next weekend, the Beavers will head back to Sioux Falls to play the University of Sioux Falls before traveling to Southwest Minnesota State University. The team’s next scheduled series in Bemidji is April 16 against St. Cloud State University.
