ST. CLOUD, Minn. The Bemidji State University softball team, coming off a split with Southwest Minnesota State University Monday, lost both games of a doubleheader to St. Cloud State University at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies took a 5-0 win in the first game before finishing off the sweep with an 11-2 win in five innings. Both games counted as home contests for BSU, which was supposed to host the games but was unable to due to weather conditions.

The win capped a season sweep of the Beavers for St. Cloud State. The Huskies won the teams’ first meeting, also in St. Cloud, by a14-0 score on March 2. BSU dropped to 8-29 on the year with a 2-18 mark in the NSIC while SCSU upped its record to 25-16 with a 10-4 league ledger.

Kelly Olson got the St. Cloud State started for the day by hitting a homerun in the top of the first inning. Mikayla Hogan doubled Olson home in the fourth to double the Huskies’ lead.

Down 2-0 in the fifth, the Beavers loaded the bases with one out, but were unable to capitalize. From there, SCSU went on to tack on three runs and Mikayla Hogan completed a seven-inning shutout while accumulating 13 strikeouts. Allie Duellman (Jr., P, Maplewood, Minn.) was handed her 10th loss of the season as she allowed five runs over seven innings. She had five strikeouts.

After the Beavers were shutout in their first two meetings against SCSU, Cassie MacArthur (So., IF, Cottage Grove, Minn.) knocked in Lyndsey Peterson (Fr., P/IF, Cottonwood, Minn.) with an RBI single to give Bemidji State a 1-0 lead.

The Huskies answered with three runs before in the next two innings to grab a 3-1 lead.

Brittany Lenander (Jr., OF, Lino Lakes, Minn.) singled home Crystal Bowen (Sr., IF, Duluth, Minn.) to cut the Beavers’ deficit to one, but that was as close as BSU would get, as SCSU added eight runs over the fourth and fifth innings to give the game an early end with an 11-2 score.

Kelsey Saralampi (Sr., P, Esko, Minn.) was dealt the loss in the game.

The Beavers are next scheduled to play Saturday at home against Minnesota State Moorhead and at home again Sunday versus Northern State University.
