Beavers announce 2014 softball schedule

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University softball head coach Rick Supinski announced the 2014 softball schedule today. The Beavers will begin the season Feb. 25-26 at the West St. Paul Dome and open conference play at the BSU softball field March 25.

BSU opens the season Feb. 25-26 with a six-game road trip to West St. Paul, Minn. BSU will play Jamestown College and Carleton College once and two games versus both Valley City State University and University of Wisconsin-Superior.

The Beavers will travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for 10 games from March 10-14 at the Snowbird Softball Invitational. The invite will conclude the 2014 nonconference slate.

Conference play begins with an eight-game home stand, starting with University of Minnesota Crookston March 25. The season all NSIC dates will be scheduled as two seven-inning games. Then the Beavers will host Minnesota State University, Mankato and Concordia University, St. Paul March 29-30. The home stand will conclude with a pair against Minot State University April 2.  

Next, BSU has its first NSIC road trip of the season as it faces Augustana College and Wayne State College April 5-6.

BSU returns home for a six-game home stand that runs April 9-13. The Beavers will take on University of Minnesota Duluth (April 9), Southwest Minnesota State University (April 12) and University of Sioux Falls (April 13).

After playing 14 of its first 16 conference games at home, BSU will conclude the season playing 10 of its last 12 games on the road. The long road swing begins April 15 against St. Cloud State University and makes stops at Northern State University (April 18), MSU Moorhead (April 19), Winona State University (April 26) before finally concluding at Upper Iowa University April 27. The only home games the Beavers will play during the stretch will be April 23 against University of Mary.

After the conclusion of the regular season, the 2014 NSIC / US Bank Softball Tournament will be held. The tournament will consist of the top ten teams in the NSIC final standings competing in a double elimination format on May 1-4 at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Beavers finished the 2013 campaign with an 8-39 overall and 2-28 NSIC record to rank 15th in the final conference standings. Bemidji State will return eight players from last year’s team and welcome 10 new players into to the fold. The returnees are led by senior outfielder Nicole Dupay (Woodbury, Minn.). She led the team with a batting average with a .326 mark, runs scored with 29, hits with 47 and home runs with five.  The five homeruns Dupay smashed last season tied her for third with most homeruns in a season in BSU history.
