BSU drops a pair to No. 13 Augustana in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Bowden Field) – The Bemidji State University softball team lost a pair of games to Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. Saturday afternoon. The Vikings followed a 13-1 victory with a 9-5 win to complete the doubleheader sweep. Bemidji State falls to 11-13 overall and 0-8 NSIC play.

Jessica Yost (P/1B, Fr., Bemidji, Minn.) got the starting nod in game one and ran into hot Augustana bats. The Vikings scored twice in the first, four times in the third and added seven in the fourth to hand Yost the loss, dropping her record to 3-5.

Bemidji State scored its lone run in the third inning when a Lyndsey Peterson (OF, So., Cottonwood, Minn.) double drove in Cassie MacArthur (IF, Jr., Cottage Grove, Minn.). Peterson’s double was the lone hit for BSU in game one as it fell 13-1.

Augustana would continue its hot hitting in game two, plating four in the first and three in the second to jump out to a quick 7-0 lead, but the Beavers would fight back in the third. After loading the bases, Alayna Krejci (IF, Fr., Wausau, Wis.) singled home Danielle Jecmen (P, Fr., Bloomingdale, Ill.). Peterson came up next and unloaded the bases with a grand slam to cut the deficit to two, 7-5.

In the pitching circle, Jecmen settled in after BSU scored its five runs and did not allow another run until the sixth when Augustana plated two more runs to seal the 9-5 victory.

The Beavers will return to the diamond tomorrow as it takes on Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
