BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team closes out an eight-game road swing Wednesday with a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader at University of Minnesota Duluth. The double dip between the Beavers (12-16, 3-9 NSIC) and Bulldogs (21-14, 5-7 NSIC) is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
Scouting Bemidji State
Bemidji State has a team batting average of .294 in 2015, which includes five players that have averages over .310. Lyndsey Peterson has been BSU’s most productive hitter leading the team with a .391 batting average with team-high eight doubles and four home runs. Sophomore Angie Roberts has also been productive; she leads the team with 35 hits and five stolen bases.
Sophomore Jessica Yost has been BSU’s top pitcher this season. Yost, who has nine of BSU’s 12 victories, leads the pitching staff in innings (85), ERA (3.21), strikeouts (113) and shutouts (2).
Scouting Minnesota Duluth
Three players have powered Minnesota Duluth’s offense in particular this season. Leading it off has been Hannah Schmoll who has been the table-setter for UMD’s offense with a .438 batting average to go along with 18 stolen bases In addition to Schmoll, Becky Smith and Jordan Rice have supplied the power with nine home runs each. Smith has drove in 42 runs with 15 doubles, while Rice has knocked in 27 and has a batting average of .351.
Cayli Sadler and Sam Hartmann have accounted for all but 8.1 innings in the circle for UMD. Sadler has a 10-9 record with a team-leading 3.29 ERA and 121.1 innings pitched. Hartmann, meanwhile, leads the staff in victories (11), shutouts (2) and strikeouts (112).
Numbers to Keep in Mind
726 – Wednesday will be the first time in 726 days that BSU and UMD have played against each other. The games between the Beavers and Bulldogs last season were cancelled due to inclement weather.
11 – Jaclyn Braiedy is riding an 11-game hitting streak, which includes every conference game. Braiedy is hitting .417 during the streak with two home runs and nine RBI.
26 – The Beavers have hit 26 home runs this season, which ranks fifth in the NSIC. BSU has five players that have three or more long balls and three additional players that have hit at least two.
