Beavers drop a pair of games to No. 12 Augustana

BEMIDJI, Minn. (BSU Softball Field) – The Bemidji State University softball team was swept in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader by No. 12 Augustana College Sunday, 13-1 and 13-0. The Beavers move to 15-19 overall and 6-12 in NSIC play, while Augustana remains unbeaten in its last 20 games and improves to 37-5 overall.

Game 1 Recap: Augustana led game one off with a run in the first inning and followed that up with a pair of six-run innings to open a 13-0 lead on the Beavers. BSU got on the scoreboard in the fifth when Lexi Ripka reached on an error plating Erin Deters to finish off the scoring.

Jessica Yost was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits in one-and-two-third innings. Danielle Jecmen worked the final three-and-one-third innings for the Beavers and allowed just two earned runs (six runs overall) on nine hits with three strikeouts.

The Beavers collected five hits in total against Augustana’s pitching staff. Angie Roberts, Monica Wittner, Ripka, Deters and Yost all collected base hits for BSU.

Game 2 Recap: Augustana’s offense did not cool off in game two as it scored four in the first, two in the second, three in the fourth and four in the fifth en route to a 13-0 win over BSU to complete the sweep. Jenelle Trautmann led the Vikings going three-for-three with a home run and five RBI.

Augustana’s Carly Pickett held the Beavers to three hits over four innings of work to earn her eleventh win of the season. Kailtyn Shea, Roberts, Ripka and Wittner notched the hits for BSU in game two.

Jenna Massingill took the loss in the circle for BSU after allowing nine runs on 12 hits in three innings. Allison Roberts threw the final two innings for Bemidji State allowing four runs on four hits.

Next up: Bemidji State will continue a season-long eight game home stand Tuesday with a doubleheader against St. Cloud State University. The double dip is set to begin at 2 p.m. from the BSU Softball Field.
