Lexi Ripka homers twice but Minot State takes two from BSU, 3-1, 10-2

MINOT, N.D. (South Hill Softball Complex) – Freshman Lexi Ripka hit two home runs but Minot State University swept the Bemidji State University softball team Wednesday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action by scores of 3-1 and 10-2. BSU moves to 17-25 and 8-18 in NSIC action with the losses.

Game 1 Recap: Despite 10 strikeouts from starting pitcher Jessica Yost, Bemidji State dropped game one to Minot State, 3-1. Minot State’s Jordan Grant led the team going two-for-four with three stolen bases and two runs scored.  The two runs scored by Grant was enough for Mindy Lorimor, as she struck out 11 BSU hitters, allowed two hits and one run (unearned) to get the win.

Lyndsey Peterson and Jaclyn Braiedy collected the hits for BSU in game one. Braiedy drove in BSU’s run with a single in the seventh plating Yost after she reached on an error.

With the loss, Yost evens her record to 11-11 this season. The Bemidji, Minn. native allowed seven hits and three runs (two earned) in six innings of work.

Game 2 Recap: Ripka went three-for-three with a pair of solo home runs for Bemidji State in game two, but a five-run sixth by Minot State proved too much, as MISU completed the sweep with a 10-2 victory in six innings.

After tossing seven innings in game one, Lorimor threw all six innings in game two to pick up her second win of the day. Lorimor allowed two runs on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts in the victory.

Allison Roberts started in the circle for Bemidji State and worked the first four innings and gave up five runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Jenna Massingill worked the final one-and-one third innings and allowed five runs (all earned) on four hits. Roberts’ record moves to 4-4 with the loss.

Notes on the Beavers

  • Ripka’s two home runs Wednesday makes it four home runs in four games and six on the season. Ripka became the fourth different BSU player to register a multi-home run game. Despite being a freshman, Ripka’s six home runs are tied for eighth on BSU’s career home run list.
  • Peterson notched a double in game one, which gives her 50 hits this season. The 50 base hits are tied for the second-most in a single-season in program history with teammate Angie Roberts and former Beaver Stephanie Gray.
  • Yost collected 10 strikeouts in game one to give her seven double-digit strikeout games this season. Yost is up to 166 strikeouts in 135.1 innings.

Next up: Bemidji State returns home Saturday for a doubleheader against Minnesota State University Moorhead. Saturday will also serve as senior day for BSU’s two seniors, Cassie MacArthur and Allison Roberts. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the BSU Softball Field.
