BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team fell to Minnesota State University, Mankato in both games of its doubleheader, Sunday. The Beavers (20-10, 3-4 NSIC) were held scoreless in the series as the Mavericks (25-9, 8-2 NSIC) outscored BSU, 18-0.
Minnesota State 13, Bemidji State 0 (F/6)
The Mavericks started game one by scoring two runs in the first inning and never looked back from there. MSU added three more runs in the second and scored runs in the fourth and fifth to make it 7-0. Minnesota State completed the run rule in the sixth inning with a six-run inning to win game one.
The Beavers couldn’t beat the conference’s top pitcher in Coley Ries and totaled just three hits. Senior Lyndsey Peterson had two of the Beavers’ hits and went 2-for-2 while Erin Robson had the other hit for BSU.
Jessica Yost just earns just her third loss of the season after going five innings, allowing nine hits and five earned runs.
Minnesota State 5, Bemidji State 0
It wasn’t until the third inning that either team reached the scoreboard after Minnesota State scored one run. The Mavericks then responded in the fourth with two runs and extended their lead even further with runs in the fifth and seventh to take the 5-0 win.
The Beavers totaled just two hits in the game when Yost and Peterson each went 1-for-3.
Jenna Massingill pitched all seven innings for the Beavers and falls to 5-4 on the season. She allowed five earned runs off of 13 hits and had two strikeouts.
The Beavers will try to rebound tomorrow when the travel to face Concordia University-St. Paul for a doubleheader in St. Paul, Minn.
