Beavers drop two on first day of Spring Break Tournament

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bemidji State University softball team dropped two contests to No. 19 University of Indianapolis and St. Ambrose University on the first day of the Spring Break Tournament in Clermont, Fla. The Beavers (2-2, 0-0 NSIC) began the day by falling to the No. 19 Greyhounds 3-1 and fell to the Fighting Bees 4-2 in game two.

UIndy 3, Bemidji State 1

Indianapolis scored all three of its runs in the third inning before Kelsey McAllister hit a solo home run in the seventh inning for the Beavers lone run of the game.

Senior Jessica Yost went all seven innings in the game and allowed the three earned runs off of nine hits and one home run but struck out 11 batters.

Alexandra Ripka went 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles but the Beavers failed to score when they had four runners in scoring position.

Bemidji State 2, St. Ambrose 4

The Fighting Bees scored three runs off of sacrifice hits to defeat the Beavers 4-2 in the second game of the day. SAU scored their first run of the game in the first inning but McAllister answered with a solo home run in the second to even the score at one.

Three runs in the fourth and fifth innings by the Bees gave St. Ambrose a 4-1 lead over BSU but the Beavers attempted a comeback in the seventh inning when Alayna Krejci hit an RBI single but the Bees were able to close out the game leaving one runner on base.

Sophomore Rochelle Koshalek started the game and went four innings but was credited with the no decision. She only gave up one earned run on six hits and struck out one batter. McAllister came in to pitch two innings in relief and was credited with the loss after giving up two earned runs on four hits.

Olivia Tucker and Courtney O’Connor each had two hits the game for BSU while Tucker added a double.

Bemidji State will be in action again tomorrow in Clermont, Fla., and will face Post University and Ohio Dominican University at 7 a.m. and noon, respectively.
