Bemidji State falls to Winona State in softball doubleheader

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team was swept by Winona State University in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Sunday afternoon. The Beavers (17-10, 7-5 NSIC) fell in game one 9-1, and were shutout in game two, 9-0 by the Warriors (31-6, 12-0 NSIC).

Winona State 9, Bemidji State 1 (F/5)

The Beavers would welcome the NSIC’s top team Sunday afternoon with Winona State leading the conference with a perfect 10-0 record. BSU would have a tough task to try and take down the Warriors and quickly fell behind after a two-run first inning for WSU.

The Beavers responded however, with a run in the bottom half of the frame when Jessica Yost hit an RBI single to centerfield. Unfortunately, the tally would be the only one for BSU as the Warriors took game one 9-1 after five innings.

WSU’s McKenna Larsen held the Beavers scoreless for four straight innings with BSU only able to produce six hits off of the right-hander.

Sophomore Kelsey McAllister pitched all five innings for Bemidji State and fell to 1-3 this season. She allowed nine runs, three earned, off of 12 hits while striking out one batter.

Jessica Burlingame led the Beavers at the plate by going 2-for-2 with two singles.

Winona State 9, Bemidji State 0

Game two would be dominated by Winona State’s pitcher Jordyn Kleman who held the Beavers hitless to throw a no-hitter. The game would take all seven innings, but the Beavers were unable to solve the right-handed pitcher.

Sophomore Rochelle Koshalek pitched in the circle for Bemidji State, giving up nine runs, five earned, off of 11 hits and had two strikeouts.

The Beavers will look to rebound Wednesday by hosting St. Cloud State University for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
