Beavers hit into three-game win streak with two wins Monday

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bemidji State University softball team totaled 21 hits over two games to extend its win streak to three games Monday afternoon at the Spring Break Tournament in Clermont, Fla. The Beavers (5-7) began the day with five hits in a 3-2 win over Indiana University-South Bend and piled on 16 hits in a 16-1 win over Clarion University to end the day.

Bemidji State 3, IUSB 2
Junior Jessica Burlingame hit the game-tying two-run homerun in the top of the third inning followed by the game-winning home run by junior Makayla Pagel just two batters later to propel the Beavers to a 3-2 victory over the Titans.

IUSB began the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning but junior Rochelle Koshalek and freshman Stephi Dullum kept the Titans scoreless through the remaining six innings. Koshalek earned her first win of the season and improved to 1-2 after pitching five innings, allowing two-unearned runs and three hits. Dullum earned her first career save after pitching the final two innings and only allowed one base runner who reached on an error.

Burlingame finished by going 2-for-3 in the game to lead the Beavers while Pagel, Alexandra Ripka and Sami Dullum each recorded hits.

Clarion 1, Bemidji State 16 (F/5)
Bemidji State used a nine-hit and nine-run second inning to down Clarion 16-1 in five innings. The Beavers began the game by scoring two runs off of a passed ball in the first inning. The Golden Eagles responded, however, with a solo homerun in the second to make it 2-1.

The Beavers would then fire off for nine runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up 11-1. The inning was highlighted by junior Megan Castor who hit her first career home run and totaled three RBI. Shania Kinghorn also totaled three RBI in the inning after batting twice. The Beavers then saw another career first in the third inning when junior Rochelle Koshalek hit her first career home run, also driving in three runs. BSU totaled five runs in the third ending its scoring in the game.

Stephi Dullum held the Golden Eagles to two hits in the game allowing just the one run while also earning four strikeouts to improve to 3-3 in the circle.

A total of six Beavers recorded an RBI in the game including three from Castor, Kinghorn and Koshalek. Six Beavers recorded two hits in the game while junior Kelsey McAllister led the team with three runs scored.
